tiagos interzona 13 label has quietly gone about its business across three acclaimed and sold-out eps. his unique reputation as a dj is matched by the distinctive and unrivaled quality of his productions. for his fourth outing tiago treads an arguably more experimental path, and using sem titulo (untitled in portuguese) on three of the cuts here only adds to the mysterious nature of the sonic treats within. present, as always are the deft rhythm sections and powerful arrangements, as subtle elements of disco, techno & new wave provide the bedrock for his trademark off kilter melodies and soundscaping. the darker underbelly of club life may well be the inspiration, but the mood and execution are pure tiago! another beauty then from this outstanding, diverse and incomparable imprint.

tekseven records. hailing from belfast n.ireland. the opening track orbit by tekseven is a trip into an off beat world of heavily laden beats, baselines, synths and sci-fi, evolving vocal lines seemingly sampled with precision from an old 50s t.v set somehow reminiscent of robert hood. the remix from uk artist binny continues along the sci-fi theme with a beautifully crafted ambient intro which turns into a thumping good retro feeling techno track! on the b-side teksevens atlas introduces us to some straight up no holds barred high quality light and shade techno that will loosen any dance floors rivets.last but not least is an excellent remix by mattias fridell verging more on the dub side of things with the deepest spacious bass that is a hallmark of his fine techno creations . all in all, a great first release from a brand new vinyl label. expect great things in the future.

7eventhirty and gensu dean. rapper and producer. mello music group stalwarts and jackson, mississippi natives turned dallas denizens. their working together was fated, rooted in shared soil before it was written in indelible ink. with 7eventhirtys sophomore album, the problem, the duo have committed their destined collaboration to wax, giving rap listeners an album that wrestles with the rapidly changing present and carves out a much-deserved space in the forever-uncertain future.

fred p immerses himself further into his techno alter ego, bringing more depth and insight to the saga, using sound to transcend time and space. *serinatatis* starts off the proceedings with a relentless drive and lofty pulsating pads that give you the feeling of a dismal oasis, with its brooding bassline and obscure vocals penetrating the construct. *dark population* takes us further down the rabbit hole into deeper rhythmic vibrations. this hypnotic ceremonial floor shaker echoes the cerebral ethos of the ep. last, but not least, *convective zone* cracks the sky and lets the sun shine in with its rolling baseline and ethereal chord structure. homage to the term techno soul is paid in full here as a trumpet blares through without losing the depth of the moment.

in contrast to his *heart* release, scrases *another* ep provides a dark and twisted journey down more alien avenues - the streaming melodies & warm atmospheres of the previous ep supplanted by arcane wooden rhythms and mechanised bass movements. *another* delivers a slab of crawling, warehouse-weight with an eastern flavour, *movon* provides a minimal take on uk bass music fine-tuned to devastating effect. the three percussive tracks littered throughout the release explore a very different angle, combining dusty wooden rhythms with dread-filled tones and complex manipulations, lending the diverse collection of tracks a strong ritualistic feeling, topped off with a brooding remix of the title track by the ever consistent irish techno duo lakker.

berlin based cohorts ekkohaus and rufus (also part of tru west and nightdrivers) consummate their friendship with this four-track mission statement that deals in gutsy house music with a range of moods to suit every corner of the night. studer is a cheeky cut with jazzy key flurries and a fulsome bassline squelch, while pagan takes a tougher route into heavy delay feedback and pure rhythmic intensity. the end of an ear is a playful beast that takes off-key melodies and oddball noises and works them into a moody, heavy grooving context, while peace & reflection pushes the swing past the brink for a leftfield house jam that sounds liable to fall apart at any minute, in a good way of course.

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

that man, craig mcnamara aka last magpie, is proving a popular choice round here at hypercolour/losing suki hq. with various eps and remixes for both our labels, it s also rubbed off on some of our artists too, with the likes of maya jane coles being a big supporter (getting a last magpie re-rub of her everything track on her new label i/am/me). his always on point blend of genres, from bumpin garage kissed house to hardcore bass monsters mark him out as a very versatile producer, and on the she won t let ep, the magpie once again spreads his wings over four cuts.

z records are back with vol 7 in the attd series: a1 yes, another killer cut on zr. zo!s gorgeous soul tune featuring eric roberson and phonte gets subtly housed up mix by dave lee. a record you will be hearing all summer at more musically inclined parties across the world. a2 jakattas house classic american dream gets a very cool bassline driven remix from andre crom & chi thanh… b1 new and unreleased…. b2 akabu feat. alex mills *everybody wants something* was an enormous tune for many in 2013 and is still getting played by big name djs in bustling nightclubs around the world. now we give you an off the chain/on point/un-believable remix from rhemi. we are not going to describe the nuances of the remix and highlight why the aforementioned big name djs like dropping the track in their sets at cool clubs/festivals/corporate events but its pretty bloody good…

the next outing on mora music comes from leeds based tms, delivering two well-rounded & versatile tracks. *fuck you, pay me* is the peak timer with firing, pounding kick drums and off-key stabs in the background. it builds to a crescendo of intense feedback, before suddenly dropping with the bass line you have been waiting for. *slomotion* on the b-side is the slow burner of the ep confirmed by the beautiful hook that comes in halfway through the track. rounding off the release comes a remix of slomotion from mora music favourite bobby o donnell. this hypnotic trippy little number raises the bar, taking the track to an intense dance floor high.

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

the prolific lord of the isles (aka scotlands neil mcdonald) has had a string of stunning 12 inches over the past few years on labels such as permanent vacation, unthank, shevchenko, mule and of course his four track > year of the city ep< on phonica, which was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2012. this time loti presents two long-form tracks, each a mini-masterpiece in itself. the 10 minute plus >greane< bursts into life after an intro of kicks and white noise hi-hats. it continues to slowly build, with pitch-bent synth lines and a pulsing bass-line making way for a melacholic shift in mood. truly original stuff! on the flip, a swirl of synthetic strings introduces ‘gigha’, in a manner that brings to mind rhythm is rhythm’s legendary ‘kao-tic harmony’, before the drums and infectious acid-line join in. over the 8 minutes they continue to interweave and play off each other to dazzling effect. artwork by jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community (including the highly praised campaign behind james holden’s ‘the inheritors’, its singles and live visuals), electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.

dissonant starts off this season 2014 in ibiza with talented spanish producer medu. this new ep meets the dissonant vision of adventurous and sensuous electronic music. medu’s minimal roots immerse us into wild energetic drums and organic details. shi-sei adventure into loose breakbeat flows with its central drum sample, constantly weaving textures and percussion in and out of the groove for a nerve-tingling trip. bronq has a more free-spirited drums approach,a more steady tech-house beat, with a bit of atmospheric sounds turns surprisingly this tune into futuristic carnival experience.

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

working together on-and-off at their respective bases in london and edinburgh, leonidas & hobbes have honed a mutual love of soul, acid, house, techno, psychedelic and dub sounds for mo machines. their collaborative debut ep, machines, tapes & electronic setups (hm002), won fans across the board last year.

usually found in partnership with blocks on their own narratives imprint, here we find escher flying solo with two beautifully contrasting compositions. deep architecture has already been causing a big stir online due to its wild time signature and off-beat percussive patterns. physically its drum & bass, but mentally its most definitely techno as it pummels with loopy drum insistency. spirit bounce, meanwhile, is a stark and breezy stepper that oozes space and shimmers with emotive synths. its a simple but soulful synthesis many have attempted over the year but only few have mastered... klute, marcus intalex and now escher, too. the return of 31 has been one of d&bs best stories so far this year.

itokim, aka tendo-based producer takuro ito, aligns with dj bone s subject detroit label with the subject japan: rhythm poems ep and his opening gambit certainly leaves a dent. -motechnique- has been a staple of bone s 3 deck attacks in recent months and it will have eyebrows raised and mouths open from the off. weighty but warm kicks start as they mean to go on, bursting with pace and vigour as thrusts and stabs pinprick the brooding chords. the laidback, easy-going connotations of the title to -roll up and shine- are very much the ethos and aesthetic of the production, as a playful, bubbling melody sets a warm and almost sugary tone from the off before being bolstered by a suave melange of full-bodied kick and dexterous percussion. itokim rounds off his first outing on subject detroit with -the mood device-, a to the point groover that melds elements of the previous productions to stunning effect. a genuine builder of a track with a straight and true trajectory, -the mood device- melds innumerable coatings of percussion and synth as stabs are layered and layered again, clotting and coagulating the composition in to one delightfully deep and multidimensional slice of formidable dancefloor composite.

having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic r&b, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star throwing shade (aka producer nabihan iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12- on happy skull. -chancer- and -blanx- both retain iqbal s uniquely intergalactic aesthetic,whilst flitting between jacking, chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. the 12- is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of iqbal s distinctive, dreamy vocals.

to rack & ruin comes thundering your way slap bang in time for summer courtesy of our italian disco brother in arms dj rocca and his compardre n2b. the usual high standard of sounds are as present as ever on the 6th instalment of our edits and reworks imprint. get up hits you with a rolling bassline that brims with plenty of pant flapping groove & wah wah guitar licks before that ever so familiar vocal kicks in for a full on reggae disco workout. weird safari certainly lives up to its name - a stripped back, dark & almost techno sound, alongside tinkering percussion and spaced out wild animal noises surely make for a weird safari. dubby pino has you from the off, all the foot stamping & money shaking elements are present - hooky guitar, fat bass loop, infectious percussion, soulful vocal licks and a gorgeous little piano break. mr rossi’s backpain starts off by getting the award for the best song title we’ve ever had on rack & ruin, but as well as that it’s in the proper groovy dance floor tackle category with a bassline & guitar that commands your respect and then when the 4/4 kicks in at 1 min, well just have a listen.

for our second release on wavereform, we continue our explorations into sophisticated sounds from mostly-unexplored areas with the production debut from juras lietus, a 25 year-old latvian producer from riga whose mysterious origins in this out-of-the-way locale may surprise listeners, but whose sound fits very well into the label’s mission to reform the sound sphere with simple and elegant tracks that demand attention and bring unknown talent deserved notice. lietus wastes no time in showing off his developed dub techno style on >dark frank< as the bold, well-defined contours of the bottom end are contrasted with gentler ambient textures in the opening, it acquires more force as it moves along as he adds harder percussion patterns to the framework while the dense atmospherics progress barely in the background. >direct< is the more subtle and atmospheric of the pair, as crisp, delicate drums develop slowly while also suggesting melody. it too gains strength as it goes though, with ricocheting percussion and a barely-controlled feedback wail leading into a dramatic breakdown before he slowly winds things down in the detail-rich final section. j&#363,,,,,,,ras lietus and latvian techno may be mostly unknown, but this strong showing for wavereform 002 reveals much still to be uncovered in these eastern lands.

snuff trax celebrates magic record release number 010: happy jackin birthday! for this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the labels back catalogue. leading us off, mr white (you know him from his collaboration with larry heard) made an edit of snuff crews *are you house*. followed by humandrone from tokyo remixing perseus traxx - *dont feel alone*. on the flipside you hear a remix treatment for raiders of the lost arp - *stealing my love* made by our man takeshi kouzuki of kobe/japan. and last but not least dimdj from thessaloniki created his own version of *galaxian journey* by elec pt.1.

cromie s bubbling, spacious house sound first drew critical acclaim last year on the sold out 12- vines / pyrex (peach001), a collaboration with fellow la producer sage caswell. now, peach is thrilled to present cromies solo debut ep inner knows, a revved up set of idiosyncratic dancefloor weapons. how to stop a bulldozer, a rotating helix of synth stabs, warped vocals and low-end torque warrants it s epic title. elsewhere, flan functions like a potent concentrate of 22nd century funk. inner knows kicks off side b with a swirling late night house jam that flirts with the deeper corners of the genre. another fixture in la s electronic scene, suzanne kraft (running back, esp institute, pharoahs) closes out the record with a cubist reading of flan. on his solo debut, cromie s creative depth and attention to detail belies his freshness to the game. regular sets at las club called rhonda and various underground happenings in the sprawling southland have taught him some valuable lessons. if he can deliver this many distinct sounds on a single record, we cant wait to hear what’s next.

danny daze is back on ellum with another killer single, flange. a monster of an ep that is perfect for summer madness! the a side feature the original version of flange, an unadulterated slice of storming techno complete with dissident car engines screaming in and out of the mix, heady stuff. on the flip and danny delivers a sparse jacking dub version of flange. finally the ep is rounded off with the effervescent transcendentalness of ritmo, another great release from ellum!

all it takes to distinguish a deep house release from all the others these days is the people involved behind it. in this case, and.id who has proven to be as comfortable as making techno for mobilee, viva music and 2020vision, as he is to produce elaborate jazz arrangements, covering electronic music songs with his jazz trio, is the man behind the first two original tracks for the taverna tracks imprint.

second chapter on horizontal ground from your favourite misleading named artist. a restless paranoid journey through your deepest fears, into the abyss, heading straight to a complete catharsis. there is no way out from the cerebral maze of alienation.

a careful work, a well illustrated journey, where the four cardinal points are 4 originals marked by a bass line sound that seems to come from a tb 303 just dusted off by a deposit of mr. ikutaro kakehashi .

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

as headman gears up to release his sixth album it appears he is having something of an identity crisis... is he headman? or is he, as his mother named him, robi insinna? either way, he is one of disco s most daring of producers and, monikers aside, anything he releases is well worth your attention. especially this first sampler from the album 6. a collaborative affair, each track sees him teaming up with kindred spirits and friends to forge new groove paths and re-position old references. -work- takes a kraftwerkian recipe and stretches it like a well made pizza dough, -barbarism- dusts off the cosmic guitars for an enlightened star-gazing session, -der- sits happily between black strobe and jeff wayne while -sleep red- cruises towards dfa city limits in a cowbell escalade. each one of them will have you hankering for the album. guaranteed.

trulz & robin are trulz kvam & robin crafoord, hailing from, yes off course, olso. and producing a mixture of deranged (in a great way) and extremely deep detrot influenced transmatesque slow electronic house. which they rightly call >acid-house gone organic<. i takeskogen and mosemannen are 2 moving and seriously mezmerising killer tracks that win and win with each listen and totally stand out of the mass of todays releases. tip!
